Eligibility
Municipalities, municipal organizations, Indigenous Communities, and Community- based-networks or ICT community champions (not-for-profit economic development / innovation centres) in Northern Ontario.
Eligible NOHFC broadband projects are those projects that have applied to and have been declined funding under other Ontario infrastructure programs, and/or do not meet the eligibility requirements.
Before you begin, check if you fall within the eligible region of Northern Ontario.
What is eligible?
- Projects improving internet and cellular service in areas with internet speeds below 25 Mbps;
- Projects providing at least 25 Mbps of internet speed at a price similar to what nearby urban residents pay;
- Projects expanding cellular coverage along the Trans-Canada and King’s Highways; and
- At least 85% of the funding must be used for infrastructure like towers, antennas, electronics, and site buildings related to broadband or cellular services.
Requirements
- The maximum amount of funding from all government sources will not exceed 90%;
- A copy of a map and identification of property defining the geographic coverage of cellular or broadband projects must be provided; and
- Applicants must provide an overview of the network design.

We’ll get some additional information on your project and review it in greater detail.

We’ll share our review with our board of directors, who will make the final decision on your application.
