TIMMINS — The Ontario government is investing $400,000 to support Timmins’ growing economy, create jobs and help meet the mining sector’s increased demand for industrial fleet vehicle repairs and maintenance support.
“Now more than ever, in this time of uncertainty, our government is committed to helping northern companies and workers grow, prosper and feel secure,” said George Pirie, Minister of Northern Economic Development and Growth. “Our targeted funding is addressing tariff concerns by protecting jobs and fostering economic development and diversification across the North.”
The investment enables OK Tire Timmins to expand its facility by 4,000 square feet and purchase heavy-duty hoists and tooling equipment that will be used to service mining industry vehicles in the region. Funding is delivered through the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation (NOHFC), which aims to increase employment in the North, boost local economies and strengthen key industries.
“Timmins is experiencing rapid growth in the mining sector, which means more industrial vehicles requiring repairs and maintenance. On top of that, our mining clients need rapid service to minimize downtime at their operations,” said Yanick Murray, Co-owner, OK Tire Timmins. “NOHFC funding is helping us meet these demands head on and grow our business simultaneously. Not to mention, enabling us to hire more skilled trades people as well.”
The NOHFC fosters economic growth, job creation and workforce development throughout the North, benefiting communities of all sizes, both rural and urban, including Indigenous communities. Since June 2018, the NOHFC has invested more than $905 million in 7,309 projects in Northern Ontario, leveraging more than $2.8 billion in investment and creating or sustaining over 11,210 jobs.
