Ontario Supporting Pointe au Baril Community Centre Renovations in Township of The Archipelago

POINTE AU BARIL – The Ontario government is providing $48,645 through the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation (NOHFC) to the Township of The Archipelago to renovate the Pointe au Baril Community Centre’s meeting room. This investment will modernize critical infrastructure and foster development in the Northeast.

“Enhancements like this are a huge benefit to our communities,” said Graydon Smith, MPP for Parry Sound-Muskoka. “I want to thank the Township of The Archipelago for continuing to provide up-to-date services for their residents. Community centres are vital for keeping people united and this is another way residents in the Pointe au Baril area can keep connected. Thanks also to the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation for recognizing the benefits this project will have to the community.”

The Township of The Archipelago will use NOHFC funding to replace worn and outdated fixtures and furnishings. The project includes installing vinyl flooring and energy efficient lighting, updating the kitchenette, and purchasing new furniture and tableware. When completed, the meeting room will be more accessible, safe and environmentally friendly.

“The Pointe Au Baril Community Centre meeting room upgrade has delivered another successful outcome to our community through the NOHFC,” said Bert Liverance, Reeve, Township of The Archipelago. “With the ongoing support of the Ontario government and its funding programs, the Township of The Archipelago continues its strategic priority of delivering sustainable and cost-effective services to our community. The improvements to such an important community space will see both near- and long-term benefits to our community and was helped in large part due to the provided funding.”

“With the NOHFC’s funding assistance, The Archipelago has successfully transformed the Pointe au Baril Community Centre meeting room to a modern and inviting space, with amenities for all,” said Josh Badger, Director of Operations and Facilities, Township of The Archipelago. “The project completion delivers integrated technology, enhanced aesthetics, and upgraded infrastructure to our vibrant community centre, and emphasises the importance of the space into the future. We look forward to welcoming more community members and expanded events through our doors, and we would like to thank our partners for helping make this possible.”

“With NOHFC funding, our government is increasing the potential opportunities of the Pointe au Baril Community Centre’s meeting room,” said Greg Rickford, Minister of Northern Development. “The enhancements will ensure residents and organizations of the Township of The Archipelago continue to have a safe and accessible space to host community gatherings.”

The NOHFC promotes economic prosperity across Northern Ontario by providing financial assistance to projects—big and small, rural and urban—that stimulate growth, job creation and skills development. Since June 2018, the NOHFC has invested more than $762 million in 6,309 projects in Northern Ontario, leveraging more than $2.3 billion in investment and creating or sustaining over 9,750 jobs.
