PARRY SOUND – The Ontario government is providing more than $13,600 through the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation (NOHFC) to the Rotary Club of Parry Sound to host today’s Hockey Day in Parry Sound event in commemoration of the 100-year anniversary of the Parry Sound Hockey Club. This investment will support tourism and promote local businesses in Northeastern Ontario.

 

“Hockey Day in Parry Sound is a great way to celebrate the 100th season of the Parry Sound Hockey Club,” said Graydon Smith, MPP for Parry Sound-Muskoka. “Thanks to help from the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund, the Rotary Club of Parry Sound and other partners were able to provide an exciting opportunity for residents to take part in all-day activities downtown and to watch the Toronto Maple Leaf Alumni face off against local players. Parry Sound truly is a hockey town and it’s great to see the support of the community for an event like this.”

 

Hockey Day in Parry Sound features many attractions, entertainment and activities in Downtown Parry Sound, ending with a special hockey game at the Bobby Orr Community Centre featuring Toronto Maple Leafs alumni. The game features a celebrity referee, the Leafs’ mascot Carlton the Bear, music and entertainment, along with meet-and-greet and autograph opportunities with the Maple Leafs alumni.

The NOHFC promotes economic prosperity across Northern Ontario by providing financial assistance to projects – big and small, rural and urban – that stimulate growth, job creation and skills development. Since June 2018, the NOHFC has invested more than $759 million in 6,233 projects in Northern Ontario, leveraging more than $2.3 billion in investment and creating or sustaining over 9,590 jobs.
