SUDBURY – The Ontario government is providing more than $2 million through the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation (NOHFC) to three health care industry projects in Sudbury. This investment will help boost economic growth, create good paying jobs and improve accessibility to high-quality localized health care services for northern communities.
“Our government is building a resilient northern health care system by making targeted investments through the NOHFC that enhance local health care delivery and support innovative medical diagnostic technology being developed right here in Northeastern Ontario,” said Greg Rickford, Minister of Northern Development. “Today’s investments will ensure residents receive top-quality patient care in their community, as well as support a world-class medical research and development industry in the Northeast.”
The NOHFC is funding the following projects:
- $1,315,500 for Verv Technologies to create the first affordable, easy-to-use testing device that provides rapid, accurate blood analysis using disposable test chips that allow consumers to monitor and manage their health and wellness from the comfort of their own home
- $400,000 for Canadian Shield Health Care Services Inc. to enhance existing home care and wellness services by building a new clinic providing an integrated care model that is new to Northern Ontario
- $378,200 for Flosonics Medical to research, develop, prototype and certify the first wireless non-invasive medical device of its kind that will facilitate rapid assessment of heart function outside of a hospital setting without highly trained technicians.
The NOHFC promotes economic prosperity across Northern Ontario by providing financial assistance to projects—big and small, rural and urban—that stimulate growth, job creation and skills development. Since June 2018, the NOHFC has invested more than $759 million in 6,233 projects in Northern Ontario, leveraging more than $2.3 billion in investment and creating or sustaining over 9,595 jobs.
