Ontario Supporting Film and Television Production in Parry Sound

PARRY SOUND – The Ontario government is providing $700,000 through the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation (NOHFC) towards two film and television production projects in Parry Sound. This investment will create local jobs and help raise the profile of the production industry in Northern Ontario.

 

“The film industry is growing in Northern Ontario, and I’m excited to see that growth being realized here in Parry Sound,” said Graydon Smith, Member of Provincial Parliament for Parry Sound–Muskoka. “With the support of the NOHFC, the Wickensburg franchise was able to return to shoot their sequel, and now Parry Sound will have a new audio and video production studio that will help keep these services local. I’m confident these investments will continue to grow the film sector in the Parry Sound area.”

 

Film and television productions funded through the NOHFC include:

 

  • $500,000 for Wickensburg Film Studios Inc. to produce the film “Return to Wickensburg,” a family action and adventure film that follows the story of Elliot and Willow, who must save themselves from the revenge of Mr. Hexenmeister after he escapes from prison
  • $200,000 for Caissa Northern Creative Studio Inc. to purchase a facility to build an audio and video production studio in Parry Sound, complete studio renovations, purchase equipment and market a range of audio and visual services to businesses in Parry Sound and surrounding areas

 

“Our government continues to make strategic investments through the NOHFC in Northern Ontario’s booming film and television industry that drive the local economy and solidify the North’s reputation as a top production destination,” said Greg Rickford, Minister of Northern Development. “We are proud to support another locally-produced feature film and a new, cutting-edge audio and video production studio here in Parry Sound.”

 

The NOHFC promotes economic prosperity across Northern Ontario by providing financial assistance to projects—big and small, rural and urban—that stimulate growth, job creation and skills development. Since June 2018, the NOHFC has invested more than $759 million in 6,233 projects in Northern Ontario, leveraging more than $2.3 billion in investment and creating or sustaining over 9,590 jobs.
