New funding will modernize local community hub
June 26, 2026
KAPUSKASING — The Ontario government is investing $365,357 through the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation (NOHFC) to help the Kapuskasing Golf Club expand its amenities, attract more visitors and enhance its facilities for the community. As part of the government’s plan to protect Ontario, the province is making strategic investments to help build and upgrade municipal infrastructure, creating jobs and providing residents and visitors with safe, welcoming spaces to enjoy.
“The Kapuskasing Golf Club plays a key role in the local community, supporting tourism, hosting social events and recreational opportunities,” said George Pirie, Minister of Northern Economic Development and Growth. “With our government’s support the club is creating employment opportunities and improving its day-to-day operations and ensuring its long-term viability.”
Established in 1937, the Kapuskasing Golf Club is a not-for-profit organization that provides the community with recreational golf opportunities, offering a range of activities, including tournaments, family and junior days and indoor golf. The club also serves as a venue for local events.
“Thanks to the support of the NOHFC, the Kapuskasing Golf Club has transformed into a thriving year-round facility,” said André Robichaud, Manager of Kapuskasing Golf Club. “The funding enabled the creation of full-time employment, increased operational efficiency, and generated sustainable revenue growth that will benefit our organization and community for years to come.”
To expand capacity and support year-round use, the clubhouse requires repairs and renovations. With NOHFC funding, the Kapuskasing Golf Club will install a golf simulator bay and accessible entrance doors and ramp, develop an outdoor practice area and renovate the kitchen prep counter. The club will also upgrade the ice machine, walk-in cooler and irrigation, IT and sewage systems. Once complete, the facility will be an accessible, modern and safe recreational hub with improved amenities and rental capabilities.
The Ontario government is prioritizing investments through the NOHFC that protect northern industries and jobs, mitigate the impacts of U.S. tariffs and trade disruptions and secure new opportunities for the long-term prosperity of northern Ontario. The renewed focus is boosting competitiveness and ensuring the North remains a leader in Ontario’s economy. This new direction is in addition to the province’s investment of an additional $30 million over three years, bringing the NOHFC’s annual budget to a total of $110 million. Together, these initiatives will benefit communities of all sizes, both rural and urban, including Indigenous communities.
