Ontario Investing more than $1.3 Million in Economic Development Projects in Timmins

Supporting local job creation, business expansion and recreation infrastructure upgrades

TIMMINS — The Ontario government, through the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation (NOHFC), is providing more than $1.3 million to four economic development projects in the City of Timmins. As part of the government’s plan to protect Ontario, this funding will create good jobs, expand company operations and revitalize municipal infrastructure.

“Today’s investments reflect the diverse and transformative impact of the NOHFC here in Timmins and across Northern Ontario,” said George Pirie, Minister of Northern Economic Development and Growth. “From supporting community infrastructure upgrades to empowering local businesses, these projects highlight the partnership opportunities we’re investing in throughout the North.”

The NOHFC is providing funding to the following projects:

  • $781,216 for Gord’s Rentals Inc. – an Indigenous-owned machinery and equipment rental business serving the construction, mining and forestry industries – to expand, renovate and retrofit its warehouse, purchase specialized equipment, upgrade telecommunications infrastructure and install a security system
  • $261,253 for Quality Contracting Inc. – a cargo and freight company – to purchase commercial vehicles and equipment
  • $153,884 for Crawford Mechanical Ltd. – an Indigenous-owned heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) company – to purchase equipment and renovate its commercial shop
  • $130,000 for the Mattagami Region Conservation Authority to upgrade Rotary Trail, which includes resurfacing the trail, remediating wetland areas, rebuilding a bridge, replacing seven culverts, and widening and brushing trails to make sightlines clear and safe.

The Ontario government is committed to prioritizing investments through the NOHFC that protect northern industries and jobs, mitigate the impacts of U.S. tariffs and trade disruptions as well as secure new opportunities for the long-term prosperity of Northern Ontario. The renewed focus is boosting competitiveness and ensuring the North remains a leader in Ontario’s economy. This new direction is in addition to the province’s investment of an additional $30 million over the next three years, bringing the NOHFC’s annual budget to a total of $110 million. Together, these initiatives will benefit communities of all sizes, both rural and urban, including Indigenous communities.
