BACKGROUNDER
The Ontario government is providing more than $6.5 million through the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation (NOHFC) to 25 economic development projects in the Timiskaming-Cochrane region.
The NOHFC is funding the following projects:
- $2 million for Taykwa Tagamou Nation to renovate the common and cultural space of the former Wade Lake Junior Ranger Camp to create an all-season facility that provides post-detox mental health and addictions programming to Indigenous individuals
- $500,000 for the Town of Kirkland Lake to convert the Joe Mavrinac Community Complex into a facility that will provide a space to serve the public for special events and as an emergency evacuation centre
- $500,000 for the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 54 to renovate its facility to extend its useful life and ensure it remains functional to the community
- $308,796 for the Sturgeon Falls Curling Club to upgrade its facilities
- $304,160 for Three H Furniture Systems Ltd. to build a new manufacturing building, purchase new equipment and develop marketing
- $303,046 for Ed Seguin & Sons Trucking and Paving Ltd. to purchase equipment to help increase its aggregate and transportation capacity
- $302,000 for McLean’s Seed Production to build an agricultural storage facility, erect two grain bin structures, acquire new operating equipment and train staff to use the new equipment
- $269,438 for the City of Temiskaming Shores to improve Farr Park, Shaver Park and Dymond Park by resurfacing tennis and basketball courts, installing lighting, planting trees, painting an outdoor rink and replacing outfield fencing
- $200,000 for Cœur du village d’Earlton Centre communautaire to extend the life of the Earlton Community Centre by replacing the roof, completing exterior repairs and adding an outdoor bench
- $199,800 for the Royal Canadian Legion Charlton Branch 227 to modernize its facility, improve overall accessibility and ensure it is built to current building code standards
- $195,750 for the Haileybury Country Club to build a new maintenance building to help modernize the club and provide a safer work environment for staff
- $190,221 for Merely Borrowed Dairy Farms Ltd. to build an insulated farm workshop and purchase three robotic milking machines and automated livestock feeding equipment to enhance productivity
- $180,000 for the Township of Larder Lake to revitalize the township’s outdoor basketball court, outdoor skating rink and baseball fields
- $180,000 for the Municipality of St-Charles to upgrade its fire hall
- $165,600 for the Town of Englehart to renovate the aquatic centre by cleaning the pool shell and installing a new commercial grade pool liner
- $150,000 for the City of Timiskaming Shores and NISKA to upgrade Niska Park by reconstructing the green space, planting trees, building a fire pit and seating and commissioning local artists to add artwork
- $146,800 for Nor-Arc Steel Fabricators to add new manufacturing equipment and to upgrade existing equipment that introduces new precision fabrication capabilities, reduces production costs and wait times, and improves product quality
- $103,950 for the Township of James to revitalize and expand the Elk Lake Heritage Museum
- $103,107 for Tomahawk Construction Services to purchase testing equipment and densometers for a mobile laboratory
- $75,000 for the Lee Golf Club to modernize its clubhouse, which will allow it to operate year-round and add new revenue streams
- $56,685 for the Matheson District Agricultural Society to install siding and insulation
- $48,308 for Timiskaming Funeral Cooperative Inc. to replace its aging heating and cooling system with one that is energy efficient
- $34, 316 for Little Claybelt Homesteaders Museum to add an outdoor display and storage building, allowing the museum to display larger pieces of antique farming equipment
- $13, 238 for the Cochrane Agricultural Society to upgrade and revitalize its building to address health and safety concerns
- $13,111 for the Porquis Recreation Association to renovate and upgrade its outdoor rink.
