TEMISKAMING SHORES – The Ontario government is providing more than $326,000 through the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation (NOHFC) for 10 job placement opportunities in Timiskaming—Cochrane. This investment will help businesses expand operations and grow Northern Ontario’s workforce.

“Through the NOHFC, our government is focused on supporting projects that provide on-the-job career development opportunities and address skilled labour shortages by helping businesses harness local talent in the Northeast,” said Greg Rickford, Minister of Northern Development. “Together with our northern partners, we are creating highly skilled, good-paying jobs that will boost economic growth and prosperity here in Timiskaming—Cochrane.”

Internship projects receiving NOHFC funding include:

• $35,000 for MICs Healthcare Foundation to hire a Coordinator Intern to take a lead role in planning and organizing fundraising events and build positive brand awareness
• $35,000 for the Temiskaming Veterinary Services Professional Corporation to hire a Veterinary Intern to perform exams, develop surgical skills, manage on-call emergencies, order and analyse diagnostics tests and develop therapeutic plans
• $35,000 for Temiskaming Industrial Mining Equipment Limited to hire a Mechanical Engineer to prepare drawings and reports for the mining and exploration and lumber industries
• $35,000 for the Living Temagami Arts & Culture Corporation to hire an Arts Administrator to plan and coordinate professional gallery installations, exhibits, workshops and special events, complete art sale transactions and provide administrative support
• $35,000 for the Materials Joining Innovation Centre to hire a Techincal Specialist to support applied research and welding engineering projects and to perform laboratory and field testing and metallurgical analyses
• $35,000 for the Town of Kirkland Lake to hire a Facility Lead Hand to provide daily oversight and direction to facility staff and complete repairs in facilities and green spaces
• $35,000 for the Township of Brethour to hire a Roads Worker Intern to operate and maintain equipment including a dump truck, grader and loader, and repair roads and ditches
• $31,096 for Lely Center Temiskaming to hire a Technician to repair and maintain farming equipment and fulfill regular services contract for customers
• $29,302 for the Leanne Nielson Audiology Professional Corporation to hire a Audiologist Assistant to assist with patient assessment and work with hearing aids and other amplification systems to enhance the patient experience.
• $20,930 for Natalie St-Denis Physiotherapy Professional Corporation to hire a Physiotherapy Assistant to support patient treatment plans

The Ontario government is supporting local internships through the NOHFC’s People and Talent Program. The program supports a wide variety of internships, including skilled trades, and addresses the unique needs of other in-demand jobs. Program candidates include new entrants into the workforce, those transitioning to a new career, the unemployed and underemployed.

The NOHFC promotes economic prosperity across Northern Ontario by providing financial assistance to projects—big and small, rural and urban—that stimulate growth, job creation and skills development. Since June 2018, the NOHFC has invested more than $685 million in 5,656 projects in Northern Ontario, leveraging more than $2.3 billion in investment and creating or sustaining over 9,000 jobs.
