Ontario Investing in Greater Sudbury Infrastructure

SUDBURY – The Ontario government is providing over $91,000 through the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation (NOHFC) to two building development projects in Greater Sudbury. This investment will improve community infrastructure, promoting opportunities for local participation from community members.

“Today’s announcement reflects the impact the modernized NOHFC programming has on community organizations, as well as their offerings in the City of Greater Sudbury,” said Greg Rickford, Minister of Northern Development. “Our timely investment of just over $91,000 means two community groups are able to enhance their facilities and continue providing opportunities for families and community members of all ages to get active and involved.”

The NOHFC is funding the following projects:

  • $57,030 for The Navy League of Canada (Ontario Division), Sudbury Branch, to repair and upgrade the boathouse and replace outdoor storage buildings, fencing and a gate to ensure the facility’s integrity. The Navy League of Canada sponsors a Sea Cadet Corp. and a junior Navy League Corp. in Greater Sudbury. Facility updates will create a safe and inclusive space for its members.
  • $34,539 for the Polish Combatants’ Association in Canada (Branch 24) to refurbish their building’s roof and replace the heating system. The facility supports local organizations, schools, and volunteer groups, providing an essential low-cost venue for the Greater Sudbury community.

The NOHFC fosters community growth and enhancement across Northern Ontario by providing financial assistance to diverse projects, stimulating job creation and skills development. Since June 2018, the NOHFC has invested more than $835 million in 6,713 projects in Northern Ontario, leveraging more than $2.4 billion in investment and creating or sustaining over 10,380 jobs.

We were able to obtain a grant of 50 per cent, without which this project would not happen in the time deemed necessary.” – Harvey Prudhomme, Vice President, Sudbury Navy League

“The Polish Combatants’ Association in Canada, which has a 70-year cultural presence in Sudbury, is extremely grateful to receive this very generous contribution. With this assistance, we will be able to continue to provide an inexpensive venue for the many volunteer groups who use our facility within the Greater Sudbury area. NOHFC funding will ensure we provide many more years of service to the community.” – George Aniol, President, Polish Combatants’ Association in Canada, Branch 24
