NORTH BAY – The Ontario government is providing more than $787,000 through the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation (NOHFC) for 24 job placement opportunities in the Nipissing region. This investment will help businesses expand operations and grow Northern Ontario’s workforce.

“Through the NOHFC’s People and Talent Program, our government is strengthening and developing Nipissing’s economy by helping create jobs,” said MPP Vic Fedeli. “Together with our northern partners, we are creating highly skilled, good-paying career opportunities that will increase the prosperity of our region.”

Internship projects receiving NOHFC funding include:

• $70,000 for Suppa Engineering to hire a Mechanical/Electrical Engineer-In-Training to support the engineering design of mechanical, electrical and structural building systems and an Advance Manufacturing, Prototyping and Testing Intern to fabricate canoes and kayaks
• $70,000 for Nipissing University to hire two Research Interns at the School of Physical & Health Education to support the research activities of the Northeastern Ontario Research Team for Health and Physical Activity and to use instrumentation systems to quantify musculoskeletal health
• $35,000 for Discovery North Bay to hire a Community Engagement Coordinator Intern to assist with digital policy development, educational programming and marketing for the North Bay Museum
• $35,000 for the YMCA of Northeastern Ontario to hire a Camping Services Program Coordinator to create, manage and market camp programs and outdoor centre, as well as hire, train, support and supervise camp staff
• $33,907 for the North Bay & District Multicultural Centre to hire a Settlement Support Intern to deliver services that support immigrants with settlement in the Parry Sound, Nipissing, Timmins and Cochrane Districts
• $26,312 for Ableton Electrical Services to hire an Electrician Apprentice to support the installation, maintenance and repair of electrical systems

The Ontario government is supporting local internships through the NOHFC’s People and Talent Program. The program supports a wide variety of internships, including skilled trades, and addresses the unique needs of other in-demand jobs. Program candidates include new entrants into the workforce, those transitioning to a new career, the unemployed and underemployed.

The NOHFC promotes economic prosperity across Northern Ontario by providing financial assistance to projects—big and small, rural and urban—that stimulate growth, job creation and skills development. Since June 2018, the NOHFC has invested more than $790 million in 6,464 projects in Northern Ontario, leveraging more than $2.3 billion in investment and creating or sustaining over 9,930 jobs.
